JOKE OF THE MONTH
I had been doing Tech Support for Hewlett-Packard’s DeskJet division for about a month when I had a customer call with a problem I just couldn’t solve. She could not print yellow. All the other colors would print fine, which truly baffled me because the only true colors are cyan, magenta and yellow.
For instance, green is a combination of cyan and yellow, but green printed fine. Every color of the rainbow printed fine except for yellow. I had the customer change ink cartridges. I had the customer delete and reinstall drivers. Nothing worked.
After over two hours of troubleshooting, I was about to tell the customer to send the printer in to us for repair when she asked quietly, “Should I try printing on a piece of white paper instead of this yellow paper?”
THOUGHT OF THE MONTH
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
TIP OF THE MONTH
Read the instruction manual (even if you think you know it all). Recently, I bought a line trimmer. Through usage the string naturally got shorter. Having operated trimmers in the past, I kept hitting the bottom of the trimmer on the ground, expecting the string to come out. It never did! I finally got frustrated and took the trimmer to work for one of my co-workers to evaluate. He took one look at it and instantly solved the problem. It wasn’t that there was no string left to come out, but rather that this particular string trimmer was not the type that you bumped on the ground. If I had only read the instruction manual I would have discovered that it took pre-measured strings. The string would have NEVER come out longer. Save yourself some aggravation: read the instruction manual.
